High Ridge Residence
Pound Ridge, New York
In response to the program, the design reveals and underscores aspects of the
natural site previously unexplored. A series of stacked stone and concrete
walls, building volumes and terraces frame views and create a new promenade,
reinterpreting the experience of the site. Within the space, a parabolic curve,
used in multiple syntaxes, creates varied textures of natural light. Public and
private have been redefined and, layers of interstitial space have been formed
in what was previously an austere bipolar organization. The spatial scale and
section of both interior and exterior spaces continually varies throughout the
experience of the architectural promenade, moving within, without and through
the forms and planes.
