Glenby Residence
Brookville, Long Island
This project combines the design of a new pool and garden with an
extensive renovation of a Brookville residence. Here, a typical ranch
house layout of open, haphazard volumes is clarified by giving major public
spaces discrete, distinct volumes with rational inter-relationships. The
garden is conceived as a series of abstract planes that frame specific views of
the pool, house, and garden through an "architectural
promenade". The garden's stacked stone walls, indicative of materials
used historically in that region, equally assert a modern role for the garden
wall (with SMA).
