Montreal Revitalization
Montreal, Canada

A study for urban redevelopment in Old Montreal. The old city section of Montreal contains layers of its long history. Started as a small river settlement, periods of expansion, fires of destruction, and periods of boom and bust all have left fragments that can be seen today. This project takes one of the most abandoned sites, finds influences from Montreal's layered past, and projects a mixed-income housing development including work studios, community gardens, and roof-top playgrounds. The scheme stands in a tense but hopeful middle position, between protection from the current, bleak surroundings and an openness to the river, the city, and a future of prosperity.
