Fifth Avenue Duplex
New York City

The complete renovation of this 4000 sf apartment, sited just off Fifth Ave in the Museum District of New York, City, included removal of the structural slab in four locations and the addition of new windows. The restoration of the apartment’s "pre-war shell" is juxtaposed by the insertion of a modern wedge clad in Spanish sandstone and containing major services and circulation. Abstract hand-plastered planes float between the two systems. The effect of varying spaces, textures and light qualities is tranquil and balanced. (With SMA)
